October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. You’ve probably realized how important I consider this topic. In June, I joined 11 other authors in a romance anthology, The Power of Love, which benefits a battered women’s shelter in Hamilton County, Ohio. The cover appears to your right, and more information on the anthology appears below. Please check it out. All of the authors and our agents are donating our proceeds from every sale of the anthology to the Hamilton County YWCA Battered Women’s Shelter.
But I digress.
I can toss a lot of facts and figures about domestic violence your way. Facts like one in four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. An estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year. Children who witness domestic violence are at the greatest risk of repeating this violence.
But I won’t toss a lot of statistics at you. Instead, I’ll just ask that if you or someone you know is in trouble, please remember that help is available. Contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). This toll-free service is available 24-hours a day in all 50 states. The Web site is www.NDVH.org.
